Open House

Wednesday, November 1   6 – 7:30 pm

Join us for our monthly Open House at Montpelier Shambhala.

This month’s talk will be given by Alex Vlasic, entitled –– The Suffering of Whiteness: Exploring the Role of White People in Collective Liberation

From the foundations of meditation – mindfulness and awareness, how can we examine the white experience? Drawing upon inspiration from Rev. angel Kyodo williams’ and Lama Rod Owens’ pivotal book Radical Dharma, we will consider how white supremacy affects the humanity of white people. As we discover our interconnection in the social web of race, we can start to uncover what our part is in disassembling systemic racism and oppression – not just to benefit People of Color, but to liberate us all.

A note from Alex: As a white person in a very white state, I am feeling the need to talk about Whiteness and help spark white transformation. I feel keenly aware that this centers white experience and I also know this is the only perspective that I can speak from. I invite People of Color to join us, if interested. I also understand if it doesn’t feel safe. I would love to find a way to center the experience of PoC more. Please be in touch if you would like to start that conversation.

Meditation instruction will be given, we’ll practice for a while and then a short talk will be offered, followed by a discussion, tea and snacks.

All are welcome!  Free, though donations are always welcome.

Please join us!
